Pennies for Patients
 
A service learning project that is conducted in more than 300 schools (and growing) on Long Island. Students are able to help in the fight against cancer through the community service project of Pennies for Patients. The goal of the program is show students that they can make a difference in the lives of others. During a three week period in January, February or March (or another time of year at the school/class’ choosing), students learn about blood cancers while collecting funds to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

 

 

 

 

 
Island Harvest
 
Largest hunger relief organization on Long Island that devotes more than 95 cents of every dollar contributed directly to their programs. Volunteers, in-kind services, and donated food are relied upon. Volunteers have the opportunity to do many different things including; “On-Call” Food Run, Supply Run, help educate others on the organization, plan a food drive, and much more.

Rock Can Roll
Non-profit, hunger relief organization that collects healthy non-perishable food (for people and pets) and basic necessities. These materials are then distributed to local agencies, children, seniors and families who suffer from poverty and hunger.
The volunteer would gather the donated items at the event. They would then dispatch them to a local emergency hunger relief organization after the venue is over.

Tuesday's Children
 
A nonprofit family service organization  founded to promote long-term healing in all those directly impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. Their mission is to keep the promise to those children and families while serving and supporting communities affected by acts of terror worldwide.  Volunteers could be a mentor, administrative work, Program and Event volunteers, or be a Tuesday’s Children advocate by passing along information to your school, church, synagogue, college, etc…

The INN Soup Kitchen
 
The INN is a working model of how to unite the community to overcome the challenge of hunger and homelessness on Long Island. Volutneers would assist in preparing, serving, cleaning up meals, stock and inventory pantry, sort clothing and help distribute during meal time, bag groceries or personal care items.
